Brian R. Bryant, Ph.D. lives and works in Austin, Texas. After teaching special education public school students for 3 years in Maine, 2 years in Grades K-8 and 1 year in Grades 9-12, Brian moved to Texas to work on his doctorate.
Since graduation in 1984, he has served in many professional capacities, including as the Director of Research at Pro-Ed, Inc., an educational publishing company located in Austin, adjunct faculty member at The University of Texas at Austin and Florida Atlantic University, and Research Fellow at The University of Texas’ Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts. Currently, Brian is a Research Porfessor in the Department of Special Education at The University of Texas at Austin and a Fellow in the Mathematics Institute for Learning Disabilities and Differences in the Meadows Center for Preventing Educaitonal Risk, also at The University of Texas at Austin. In the past, he has served as Visiting Professor at several colleges across the country, including the University of Louisville, Pacific Lutheran University, and the University of Hawaii.
Brian has worked as a consultant on numerous projects, including the Reading First Teacher Education Network, Texas Reading First, NCATE’s RFTEN Program Evaluation, and The University of Texas System’s TRAKS Project. The author of over 100 articles, tests, professional development guides, and books/chapters in books, Brian has made more than 100 professional presentations statewide, nationally, and internationally.
He is currently Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Learning Disability Quarterly and has served as a consulting editor or guest editor for a dozen peer refereed journals.His research interests involve service provision for individuals with learning disabilities and mental retardation, particularly with regards to reading, mathematics, and assistive technology applications throughout the lifespan.
Brian is a veteran of the United States Air Force.
