Learning objectives:

  • Understand the updates to the recent version of the WAIS-5 and WMS-5 ACS Performance Validity Tests.
  • Define performance validity and symptom validity and explain how each relates to the distinct responsibilities of the examiner and the examinee in a cognitive evaluation.
  • Describe response bias and its conscious and unconscious forms and explain how insufficient effort or attention compromises the interpretability of test scores.
  • Identify the embedded performance validity measures within the WAIS-5 and WMS-5, including the Word Choice Test, Reliable Digit Span, and the WMS-5 embedded recognition results.
  • Administer and score the WAIS-5/WMS-5 validity measures correctly, applying the appropriate scores and scoring procedures for each indicator.
  • Apply the interpretation guidelines to case material, integrating multiple validity indicators to reach a defensible conclusion about whether a profile can be interpreted.
