Product Summary

Overview

How It Works

The CPAA consists of 3 parts: 1) a computer-adaptive formative assessment, 2) immediate online reports for teachers and administrators and 3) recommended activities to drive instruction. It allows teachers to check up on student learning throughout the year, intervene and monitor progress effectively to help each student and classroom succeed.

The CPAA was designed to fit within a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework and contains three discrete item banks (fall, winter, spring) for each grade. It can be used for efficient universal screening for potential difficulties (and the identification of specific academic strengths) at least three times throughout the school year. For children who require more intensive progress monitoring, the CPAA can be administered more often at the teacher’s discretion.

The assessment uses scaffolding and adaptive procedures to present only the most appropriate content to every student. If a student demonstrates mastery, the CPAA moves on to more advanced content. However, if a student experiences difficulty, a follow-up question gives him or her a second chance to answer correctly. This patented error analysis enables the CPAA to identify a child's Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) across a range of concepts. Automatically generated recommended activities are then targeted to each student’s ZPD – the area where instruction and intervention will be most effective.

Who It’s For

The CPAA is developmentally appropriate for a broad range of children in Pre K through Grade 3, from special education to the gifted and talented. The adaptive assessment and range of suggested activities are broad enough to offer support for struggling students, instruction for those who are performing at grade level and enrichment those who are excelling.

The Spanish-language CPAA is perfect for English Language Learners (ELLs), both for benchmarking and progress monitoring throughout the year. Many schools opt to use the CPAA in English and Spanish side-by-side in order to accurately compare the progress of ELLs and native speakers.

How It Can Help Your School or District

CPAA reports help teachers immediately identify where to focus for the greatest learning gains (based on each student’s Zone of Proximal Development) and allow administrators to get a head start on proactively monitoring and improving student achievement before the high-stakes tests begin. This program is used by independent and public preschool centers, schools and districts. It has helped reduce special education referrals by more than 50% in the first year of use by better identifying student needs.

Scoring and Reporting

All scoring and reporting is automatic and all graphical and narrative reports are available online the instant that a student completes an assessment.
