Through customer feedback and research, CELF–4 Spanish has been enhanced to better address the needs of clinicians who serve Spanish-speaking children and young adults. CELF–4 Spanish was developed specifically for Spanish speakers living in the U.S. as a parallel test to the English edition of CELF-4.

It is NOT a translation of the English edition of CELF–4. Test items incorporate grammatical forms appropriate for Spanish speakers and themes familiar to Spanish speaking students. Extensive professional review panel from different countries of origin ensures cultural appropriateness of the test items and art.

Yes, they are two separate versions. Here are the similarities and differences:

Similarities

Neither the CELF-5 Spain nor the CELF-4 Spanish are translated editions of the English editions. Both tests include test items that are unique to the Spanish edition, with some overlap to the CELF-5 English (U.S.) items. Both report normative scores. Both assessments are available digitally on Q-global with some print components available (see respective product pages).

Differences

The CELF-5 Spain (2018) is the most current edition of the CELF in Spanish developed and normed with students ages 5:0 through 15:11 living in Spain. The normative sample generally includes multilingual/multi-dialect individuals, as the Spain population is a multilingual/multinational one. The inclusion requirement for the normative sample is that the individual uses Spanish at home as a first language (not Catalan). This allowed the development team to reflect Spanish grammar and necessary linguistic orientation to the items. The professional can then make an appropriate differentiation between typical language acquisition and language disorder. It was adapted directly from US English version of CELF-5, not the US Spanish version.

The CELF-4 Spanish (2006) is Pearson's most current edition of CELF in Spanish with normative data collected with students ages 5:0 through 21:11 living in the U.S. The normative sample included monolingual and bilingual individuals who speak dialects of Spanish spoken in the Caribbean and Central and South America. There is currently no anticipated release date for the CELF-5 Spanish with normative data collected in the U.S.
