Product Details

Q Local is a scoring and reporting software system that provides the convenience of desktop administration and scoring for more than 30 Pearson clinical assessments.

Q Local Retirement

Q Local is being slowly phased out in favor of Q-global, our web-based administration, scoring, and reporting platform. While we are continuing to sell Q Local report administrations and renew annual licenses, the following steps are being taken in advance of an eventual Q Local retirement (date to be determined):

New Q Local Customers

As of May 1, 2023, we are no longer taking orders for new Q Local customers. Current customers can continue to order replacement counters and new report administrations by contacting our Customer Support team.

Network Licenses

Q Local Network Licenses will be retired in July 2024 due to an incompatibility with Microsoft SQL Server. Network customers can convert to Q-global or Q Local Desktop Licenses. See the FAQs tab for more information.

New Product Development

As of January 1, 2024, no new products or product enhancements will be added to Q Local. Product defects and maintenance will be performed as needed as long as Q Local is officially supported.

How it works

Install and administer

Q Local software is installed. Tests are taken on the computer or responses are manually keyed from an answer sheet.

Order administrations

A Q Local annual license fee is paid up front. Payments are then made only for the tests and administrations needed.

Track scores

A counter plugs into the USB port on the back of the computer. This keeps track of the number of test administrations scored.

Q Local Retirement

Why can’t I sign up to become a new Q Local customer?

Q Local is a legacy desktop-based system that has been replaced by Q-global. Q-global is a web-based platform that provides increased flexibility and functionality relative to Q Local. Q-global recently migrated its servers to an instance of Amazon AWS in the United States and is in the process of obtaining FedRAMP authorization, which will provide best-in-class security controls that provide you the assurance that your patient data is private and secure.

Why am I no longer able to purchase a network license for Q Local?

The network license utilizes Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express for its database management, and this version of SQL Server will no longer be supported as of July 9, 2024. When this support lapses, the network version of Q Local will no longer receive database security updates, will not be compatible with new Windows operating systems, and may incur issues related to future Microsoft updates.

What are my options if I’m a current network license user?

The first option is to transition to Q-global®, our web-based administration and scoring platform that provides increased flexibility and functionality relative to Q Local. Q-global recently migrated its servers to an instance of Amazon AWS in the United States and is in the process of obtaining FedRAMP authorization, which will provide best-in-class security controls that provide you the assurance that your patient data is private and secure.

The second option is to convert to the desktop version of Q Local, which will be supported beyond 2024. If you would like to transition to Q-global or the Q Local desktop license, please contact your assessment rep or Customer Support at 1-800-627-7271. We will convert any unused test inventory onto the new platform and help you migrate your patient data where possible. If you choose to stop using Q Local as of the sunsetting date and do not convert to another option, we will offer you credit for any unused inventory in your account.
