Pearson and SchoolMessenger Collaborate to Increase Communication Between the District, Schools, and Parents

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — April 3, 2012 —

Today Pearson (NYSE:PSO) announced an agreement with SchoolMessenger to provide customers of PowerSchool, the industry-leading student information system (SIS), with turnkey access to the leading notification solution in K-12 education, increasing the flow of information between schools, parents, and staff.

SchoolMessenger allows school districts to easily use their PowerSchool data to quickly reach targeted groups of parents and staff through several channels including voice message, SMS text, email, social media, RSS, and website postings. With one click, authorized users can contact small or large groups of constituents in seconds. Sophisticated preference controls ensure that all communications are delivered in the manner desired by each recipient.

"We are very excited about this partnership, as it allows us to enhance our communication tools within PowerSchool," said Luyen Chou, chief product officer with the K-12 Technology group of Pearson. "We believe that partnering SchoolMessenger with PowerSchool will allow us to bring unrivalled student data management and communication capabilities to the broad student populations served by both PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger."

"SchoolMessenger is used by more than 500 PowerSchool districts representing several million students – more than any other notification provider by a good measure. Collaborating with an industry leader like Pearson was an obvious choice to the benefit our mutual customers," said Sanford Kenyon, president & CEO of SchoolMessenger. "By establishing a more formal relationship between SchoolMessenger and Pearson, school districts using both PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger will see improved integration, streamlined implementation and better overall support."

Both PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger are market leaders, serving schools and districts in all 50 US states. PowerSchool is the most widely used SIS, supporting over 10 million students. SchoolMessenger serves more than 1 in 4 US K-12 students, over 20% more than the next most widely used notification service, according to company estimates. Even in today's budget-conscious environment, demand for notification systems continues to grow. Over the last 10 years, SchoolMessenger has delivered billions of messages for thousands of educational facilities across the country. "Platform size and scale matter when it comes to delivering uninterrupted service, particularly during widespread weather events," said Kenyon.

"We have been using PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger together in our district for four years," states Michael Taylor, Director of Technology for Avon Community Schools in Avon, Indiana. "The integration between the two solutions makes support a breeze for my team and empowers our administrators to quickly send out anything from an informational announcement to a critical alert with minimal effort. And both systems work seamlessly together to bring about those communications."
