Pearson Announces New Chief Technology Officer

SALT LAKE CITY — June 23, 2011 —

Today the world’s leading learning company, Pearson, announced George Gatsis as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of its Data Solutions group. Gatsis is a seasoned K-12 education technology leader, having served most recently at Follett Software Company, a division of Follett Corporation.

"George has a reputation of being a collaborative team leader and a person who can both craft strategy and lead tactical execution. We're excited to have him join our team," said Steve Curtis, president of the Data Solutions group of Pearson. "Moreover, his vision for impacting student achievement aligns with Pearson's focus to turn disparate data into actionable information that improves learning."

During his 17 years at Follett, Gatsis assumed several leadership responsibilities for development, product management, marketing, operations and strategic acquisitions. He also led the development of a wide portfolio of products for Follett K-12, including data warehousing and analytics, library management, textbook management, asset management and classroom management solutions. He also was responsible for the related subscription, hardware, professional development, technical support and services offerings for those solutions.

Gatsis has been involved with the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) Association and the K-12 interoperability movement from its earliest days. He joins Pearson with a thorough knowledge of SIF products and offerings, and with a strong understanding of the K-12 education technology industry as a whole.

He has a degree in computer engineering from the University of Utah, a geology degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign and a master's of business administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management.

As the Data Solutions CTO, Gatsis will lead the research and development organization, helping Pearson continue on its path of building market-leading products that power education.
