As part of an effort to tackle the country's persistent college readiness challenge, Pearson and the College Board today announced ACCUPLACER®//MyFoundationsLab, a solution to enhance college preparedness and student success that offers targeted assessment and remediation. The announcement was made at the College Board's 2011 ACCUPLACER National Conference in Denver today.
The new program combines ACCUPLACER Diagnostics, the College Board's computer-adaptive assessments of skills, with Pearson's MyFoundationsLab, a proven online remediation program for reading, writing and mathematics. ACCUPLACER//MyFoundationsLab identifies areas of strengths and weaknesses for each student and then builds a personalized learning path linking students to tutorials, interactive instruction and practice exercises with instant feedback to master core concepts for college and career readiness.
ACCUPLACER//MyFoundationsLab is designed for use in both high school and college programs. Enabling students to work at their own pace, the program builds the requisite skills that are needed to succeed in credit-bearing, postsecondary degree programs. Improving overall preparedness accelerates students’ time to college completion, saving them critical tuition dollars and financial aid.
"For many students, and especially those who are underserved, remediation could be the key to ensuring that they have a better chance at earning college degrees," said Gaston Caperton, president of the College Board. "This collaboration with Pearson enables the College Board to contribute a proven tool for strengthening this crucial area of the education pipeline."
"Billions of dollars are being spent to support students who lack the basic developmental skills needed to handle college-level work, which necessitates enrollment in remedial programs that cost time and money at a time when institutions and students can least afford it," said Bill Barke, chief executive officer of Pearson Arts and Sciences. "Our collaboration with the College Board on ACCUPLACER//MyFoundationsLab is designed to support institutions and instructors in their efforts to improve student achievement and retention and get students moving quickly into a successful college experience."
