Pearson Launches New Service Options to Allow Schools to Use Cloud-Based Interoperability to Implement the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF)

SALT LAKE CITY — November 2, 2010 —

Pearson today announced its new HostedPlus and Hosted service options to help schools efficiently and affordably manage the SIFWorks® Enterprise Zone Integration Server (ZIS), the K-12 education industry’s leading zone integration server for school data interoperability.

The two Hosted service options from the Data Solutions group of Pearson (formerly Edustructures) allow districts to further customize their individual SIF experience to better suit their district IT needs. With the Hosted service option, schools and districts can implement, manage and maintain their own full-featured ZIS while Pearson hosts it, or they can opt to have Pearson both host and control the maintenance and management of the ZIS for them with the HostedPlus service option.

The new flagship HostedPlus service option allows the industry-leading, full-featured SIFWorks® Enterprise ZIS to be hosted and entirely managed "in the cloud." Instead of requiring a locally deployed server, software and training to continuously monitor and configure the ZIS, the HostedPlus service option saves district IT staff valuable time and resources that can be used to focus on other IT projects. These two hosting service options now give districts even more freedom in the ways they can implement and access their ZIS, in addition to the existing option of a traditional onsite deployment.

"SIF was developed so that schools can seamlessly integrate and securely connect software, applications, databases and networks, allowing them to easily manage and access data to support improved student achievement," said Steve Curtis, president, Data Solutions group of Pearson. "Our two new hosting service options allow school districts affordable and efficient ways to achieve the goals of SIF while saving time that can be reallocated to support classroom instruction and other important educational activities."

With the HostedPlus service option, a team of expert Pearson staff are dedicated to ensuring the reliability and performance of the ZIS. The company manages all ZIS-related tasks, including monitoring, error detection and correction, zone configuration, setting permissions, formulating security policies, updating to new ZIS releases, maintaining queues and logs, performing ZIS-related New Year Rollover activities, and managing SIF agent connections. With the HostedPlus service option, districts can also rely on Pearson for registering SIF agents and configuring agent settings within the ZIS.
