Pearson, the global leader in education technology and services, today announced that Farmington Municipal School District (FMS) in Farmington, NM, has chosen to upgrade its current student information system, PowerSchool®, to the new PowerSchool – Studio Edition. This new version of Pearson’s market-leading system will allow the district to connect the dots between data, content, and achievement, thus enabling personalized learning and measurable student performance.
In the remote Four Corners region of northwest New Mexico, FMS has approximately 10,000 students and 750 PreK-12 teachers. A PowerSchool customer since 2005, FMS required a system that would be customizable, flexible, and an effective solution to meet the multiple needs of all stakeholders, from students and parents to teachers and administrators. "We did a lot of research and looked at a lot of systems, and we think PowerSchool is best of breed," said Robert Emerson, assistant superintendent for Technology, Assessment, and Accountability at FMS. "There aren’t others that allow you the flexibility that we get with PowerSchool. For example, if we need a screen for entering our bilingual student information that matches what we report to the state, we can do that ourselves."
Bringing the benefits of the newest technologies to Farmington students has been the district’s goal for many years. Moving to PowerSchool - Studio Edition was a "logical step," Emerson said. "We chose PowerSchool because of the ease of use for parents, teachers, and administrative staff and because it is easy to manage and customize. We are moving to PowerSchool - Studio Edition to take advantage of the integration between PowerSchool and the other tools that Pearson offers for content, reporting, analysis, and assessment management."
Leveraging data from multiple sources such as PowerSchool, assessment systems, and reporting tools, PowerSchool – Studio Edition captures, shares, and reports on a variety of student and assessment information, including student demographics, grades, state tests, standardized tests, and district tests. PowerSchool – Studio Edition allows teachers to assess students to determine their skill levels; teachers use this information to identify content to assign to students for acceleration or remediation of skills. Single sign-on access to all of these features ensures ease of use, adoption, and enthusiasm from end users, which includes teachers, administrators, students, and parents. "PowerSchool - Studio Edition will make it easier for our users to access information and will provide a single system approach to content and assessment management, all with little work on the back-end since the other systems are seamlessly integrated," Emerson said.
"At Pearson, we built PowerSchool – Studio Edition as a connected learning environment specifically for the K12 market," said Paul Fletcher, president of the School Systems group of Pearson. "The seamless access to student information, content, assessment data, and analytics provides tremendous benefit to districts like FMS. Pearson looks forward to working with FMS and other PowerSchool districts to extend their student information system and meet their evolving needs to drive student achievement."
The extension of PowerSchool – Studio Edition adds value and functionality for FMS. "I’ve rarely seen a product so well put together," Emerson said.
