New Math Evaluation Now Offered with AIMSweb, Pearson’s Assessment Solution for Response to Intervention

San Antonio — September 1, 2010 —

Pearson, the education services and technology company, announced today that its assessment and progress monitoring system AIMSweb® will now include an enhanced math evaluation for students in first through eighth grade.

AIMSweb is a critical component in many schools across the nation as the assessment tool implemented for Response to Intervention (RTI) models. RTI is an instructional approach to teaching and learning that identifies problems earlier through the screening of all students, then monitors their progress throughout the year and applies appropriate learning strategies based on data to maximize student achievement.

To improve RTI assessment, AIMSweb’s new Mathematics Computation (M–COMP) measurement now offers:

  • Enhanced content to increase overall rigor and align more closely with National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards,
  • An improved student-friendly format that places boxes around each numbered test item and increases space between these items,
  • Targeted evaluations that thoroughly assess student skills and their progress with fewer questions, and
  • Updated and streamlined scoring and reporting.

“It is vital that educators be able to consistently and accurately assess student progress toward their learning goals, especially in reading and mathematics. We’ve improved our AIMSweb math evaluations based on customer feedback to ensure we maintain a quality tiered approach to intervention that provides direct, frequent, and continuous student assessment and reporting results directly to students, parents, teachers, and administrators via an online system,” said Carol Watson, president of Pearson’s Clinical Assessment North America group.

Pearson’s AIMSweb, a web-based assessment and data management system, is a two-time Best in Tech winner from Scholastic Administr@tor magazine and recipient of the highest ratings from the National Center on Response to Intervention (NCRTI) for predictive validity and reliability.
