Day One - Monday, August 15th
PAL-II Reading and Writing Diagnostic Test: How to Administer, Score, and Interpret Subtests.
This session is for educational professionals who want to learn the procedures related a specific set of research-based tests. The goal of this workshop is to teach participants test administration, scoring, and interpreting through instructor lecture and modeling and participant practice with test items. Participants: Certified (or licensed) school psychologists, speech and language specialists, occupational or physical therapists, special education or general education teachers.
Day Two – Tuesday, August 16th
PAL-II Math Diagnostic Test: How to Administer, Score and Interpret.
This session is for educational professionals who want to learn the procedures related a specific set of research-based tests. The goal of this workshop is to teach participants test administration, scoring and interpreting through instructor lecture and modeling and participant practice with test items.
Day Three – Wednesday, August 17th
Assessing Before, During, and After Evidence-Based Reading, Writing, and Math Instruction: A Prevention Program for Grades 1 to 4.
This session is for the educational professionals who want to learn how to implement prevention programs to optimize achievement of all students in a cost effective and efficient way.
The goal of this workshop is to share evidence-based ways to increase performance on high-stakes tests and reduce school drop out, grade retention, and unnecessary costly special educational services. This approach involves screening, targeted supplementary instruction, and assessment of response to the intervention (RTI). The instructional strategies will be modeled.
Day Four – Thursday, August 18th
Problem Solving Consultation for Reading, Writing, and Math: Educational professionals on the Multidisciplinary Team Supporting Classroom Teachers.
Educational professionals are encouraged to sign up fro this session if they want to learn more about interdisciplinary collaboration and supplementing test scores with curriculum – and teacher-based assessments and modifying curriculum for differentiated instruction. The goal for this workshop is to provide a roadmap for curriculum based assessment through teacher questionnaire and interview and classroom observation of students during instruction which participants will learn how to use for data gathering. This information is then used to supplement test scores in working with teachers to modify instructional programs in the classroom to meet individual needs through differentiated instructions, as will be illustrated.
Day Five – Friday, August 19th
Differential Diagnosis and Treatment of Specific Reading, Writing, and Math Disabilities.
Educational professionals are encouraged to sign up for this fifth session if they want to learn more about evidence-based definitions and differential diagnosis of specific learning disabilities that is relevant to instructional intervention in both general and special education classrooms.
The first goal of this workshop is to teach educational professionals an evidence-based conceptual model for defining and diagnosing specific learning disabilities in reading, writing, and math in students whose development is otherwise normal. The second goal of this workshop is to teach educational professionals an evidence-based approach to linking assessment results to instructional planning, implementing, and evaluating. Specific teaching strategies will be modeled. The third goal is to provide guidance in working with parents of students with specific learning disabilities and to emphasize the importance of ongoing monitoring, and when necessary, specialized instructions as well as accommodation, K to 12.
