Overview
Pearson is proud to present the complimentary webinar "How Young Can You Assess Auditory Skills?" by respected researchers, Dr. Donna Geffner and Dr. Ronald Goldman.
It is often thought that due to the maturation of auditory mechanism, there are limitations in the ability to assess auditory skills in children under age 7. The underlying research for the newly-published Auditory Skills Assessment (ASA) attempted to determine whether there are means by which children ages 3.6–6.11 can be evaluated successfully for general auditory skills. A battery of auditory skills tasks was developed which included auditory discrimination, speech discrimination in quiet and in noise, auditory memory, phonological awareness tasks, and nonlinguistic auditory tasks. After a trial with over 600 children across cultural and demographic domains, results indicated that only a few tasks could provide reliable and meaningful data for this young population. This presentation will reveal the data and the tasks appearing in the final ASA that were measurable in children ages 3.6–6.11. Supporting independent research will also be shared.
