Pearson PASeries Named as Finalist in Software & Information Industry Association's 2006 Codie Awards

Recognized in “Best Student Test Preparation Solution” Category

IOWA CITY, Iowa–Feb. 7, 2006–Pearson Education announced today that its PASeries™ (Progress Assessment Series™) formative assessment product line is a finalist in the Software & Information Industry Association’s (SIIA) 21st Annual Codie Awards, in the “Best Student Test Preparation Solution” category.

The two PASeries products – PASeries Reading and PASeries Mathematics – were developed to provide educators of grades 3 through 8 with better ways to measure student progress, forecast growth and tie assessment to classroom instruction. PASeries uses the scientific Lexile scale for reading measurement and its companion Quantile scale for mathematics.

“It is very gratifying to see PASeries named a finalist in the Codie Awards again this year,” said Douglas Kubach, president, Pearson Educational Measurement, the developer of PASeries. “Since we introduced PASeries, states and school districts around the country have recognized the power of PASeries to link assessment to classroom instruction.”

Established in 1986, the Codie Awards recognize outstanding achievement and vision in the software, digital content and education technology industries. The program is the leading honor for this industry’s finest products and services. The “Best Student Test Preparation Solution” category awards the best computer-based or online solution for preparation for high-stakes tests for preK-12 or postsecondary students. This year, the Codie Awards recognized finalists in 71 categories and drew a record-breaking 1,026 nominations.

“We founded the Codie Awards 21 years ago so that the pioneers of the then-nascent software industry could evaluate and honor each other’s work,” said Ken Wasch, SIIA president. “The Codies have grown along with the markets it represents, and today competition is fiercer than ever. That makes selection as a Codie finalist a true achievement, and all the companies on this year’s list should feel justifiably proud of their recognition.”

The Codie Awards is the only peer-recognition awards program of its kind in the industry, providing a unique opportunity for companies to earn the praise of their competitors. The 2006 Codie Awards will be presented at a gala event on May 16, 2006, at the Westin St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, Calif.
