Pearson Assessments Offers Training and CE Credits Via Home Study
August 10, 2005, MINNEAPOLIS—A Pearson Assessments continuing education workshop is now available on a CD-ROM. Now, professionals can access the training and earn CE credits from their home or office.
Pearson Assessments offers a CD-ROM containing content from a workshop entitled “Effective and Responsible Use of the MMPI-2™ and the MBMD™ Tests in the Assessment of Bariatric Surgery Candidates.” The material is intended for mental health professionals who provide or want to provide psychological evaluations of candidates for bariatric surgery. Pearson Assessments developed the CD-ROM from presentations given at an Industry Educational Workshop the company sponsored at a recent annual meeting of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
Topics include the history and development of the MMPI-2 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2™) and MBMD (Millon™ Behavioral Medicine Diagnostic) tests and how psychologists can use objective data gained through the tests to strengthen the evaluations they write.
Presenters are
- Paul Arbisi, PhD, professor of psychiatry and psychology, clinical psychologist, and consultant to the University of Minnesota Press, publisher of the MMPI-2 test.
- Susan Franks, PhD, health psychologist, neuropsychologist, researcher and professor
“This training provides psychologists a good basic understanding of how to interpret MMPI-2 and MBMD test results,” said Pearson Assessments president Carol Watson. “They can use this information to support their evaluations with information that will be useful for bariatric surgeons, other members of the care team, and their patients.”
There is no charge for the CD-ROM, which offers two continuing education units after submitting and passing tests. A nominal fee will be applied for scoring and CE assignment when participants request the tests.
This CD-ROM marks the second in a series of home study training programs for psychologists sponsored by Pearson Assessments. Training on the VIP® (Validity Indicator Profile) test is also available on CD-ROM. The VIP test provides an assessment of response styles to support forensic and neuropsychological evaluations. The test’s author, Richard I Frederick, PhD, provides the training, which is worth up to three CE credits. Again, there is no charge for the CD-ROM and a nominal fee for scoring tests and CE assignment.
Pearson Assessments is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists and maintains responsibility for these programs and their content.
