Paul Retzlaff, PhD, to Present Research Results of Prisoner Personality Types

July 28, 2000, MINNEAPOLIS—Paul Retzlaff, PhD, professor at the University of Northern Colorado, will present a poster titled "MCMI-III™ and 10,000 Prisoners: Pathology Profiles" at the 108th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association in Washington, DC. His findings will be posted at noon Sunday, August 6, 2000, in the Washington Convention Center, Hall A.

Retzlaff's poster will focus on the results of a five-year study on incoming prisoners at the Colorado Department of Corrections, who were administered the MCMI-III (Millon™ Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III) Corrections Report as part of an intake assessment battery.

"I have found that there are 14 different personality types in prison, not just the antisocial personality type that one would expect," says Retzlaff. "This is probably the result of more people being incarcerated for sex and drug offenses today. It is important for mental health staff at correctional facilities to be aware of these different personality types in order to deliver effective treatment and rehabilitation."
