Comprehensive Assessment Instrument for Preteens Now Available

Pearson Assessments announces release of new Millon™ Pre-Adolescent Clinical Inventory (M-PACI™)

April 7, 2005, MINNEAPOLIS—Internationally recognized authority on personality and its development, Theodore Millon, PhD, DSc, recently responded to requests from psychologists for a comprehensive clinical assessment for pre-adolescent children. Together with child psychologist and clinical specialist, Robert Tringone, and others, he developed the M-PACI (Millon Pre-Adolescent Clinical Inventory) assessment. The M-PACI test is the first comprehensive psychological assessment that provides a fully integrated interpretive reporting for use with the 9-12 year old age group. The test is now available through Pearson Assessments and the company is offering an introductory 15% discount on initial M-PACI orders.

The M-PACI test is a self-report instrument written for 9-12 year-olds. Most pre-teens can complete the test’s 97 questions in 15–20 minutes. It is designed to help assess both pre-adolescent personality patterns and their associated clinical signs, such as anxiety, attention deficits, and depressive moods. Research has demonstrated the test’s reliability and validity when evaluated against clinician judgments.

A survey conducted by research staff at The Institute for Personology and Psychopathology, Coral Gables, Fla., found that psychologists serving children and adolescent patients are experiencing a significant increase in clinical treatment visits among 9-12 year-olds. Recent studies suggest that approximately 16-20% of children have or have had problematic emotional, interpersonal, or mental disorders. Untreated childhood difficulties often continue into adulthood, typically resulting in high personal, familial and social costs.*

Other currently available assessment instruments suitable for pre-adolescent children tend to focus on specific and narrow areas of concern, such as depression or attention deficit disorders. A wide-ranging psychological assessment that helps to tie together a variety of clinical syndromes with a child’s emerging personality pattern for use with this age group has not been available – until now. Clinicians no longer need to administer several tests to obtain the information that helps them form a complete and integrated picture of their pre-adolescent clients.
