Learn About Effective and Responsible Use of Psychological Tests in Pre-Employment Selection
May 4 workshop will help participants understand the latest trends and significant issues
March 18, 2002, MINNEAPOLIS—Candidates for law enforcement positions are carefully screened to determine the candidates’ intelligence and attitudes toward diverse populations, enforcement of the law, honoring responsibilities, and following procedures. Personality attributes such as passivity or aggressiveness, extroversion and emotional stability are also important to identify prior to hiring law enforcement personnel.
Hiring decision-makers can learn how to obtain information beyond what the interview and background checks provide, and learn more about the important personality attributes necessary for law enforcement candidates. They can get help in evaluating the information and attributes without violating applicants’ privacy rights or other rights as provided by the ADA and EEOC.
The Workshop
A workshop is available that will deal with the issues involved with pre-employment selection for law enforcement and security personnel, focusing on legal issues and the use of psychological tests. Geared for psychologists who screen public safety personnel, police chiefs, sheriffs, and other public safety and security administrators, the workshop will be held Saturday, May 4, 2002 at The Admiral Fell Inn in Baltimore, Maryland.
