Content Relevant To Graduate Programs
The MAT involves background knowledge critical to the commencement of study in graduate school. The test is intended to measure an individual’s ability to recognize relationships between ideas and requires fluency in the English language and general knowledge of the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. The exam consists of 120 analogy items that reflect content categories relevant to graduate programs.

Proven And Valid Predictor Of Graduate School Success
A recent meta-analysis of studies involving the MAT concluded that the MAT is an especially useful measure of general cognitive ability because it is composed of analogy items that require reasoning with vocabulary knowledge and knowledge of various domains. The university researchers that conducted the meta-analysis also concluded that the MAT is a valid predictor of success in both academic and work settings.
