Psychologists/Neuropsychologists

Auditory Skills Assessment (ASA)

Test Description:

The Clinical Assessment group of Pearson is developing a new assessment called the Auditory Skills Assessment. Although the ASA is a new product, it draws from concepts presented in the Goldman-Fristoe-Woodcock Test of Auditory Discrimination and the Goldman-Fristoe-Woodcock Auditory Skills Battery, two of the most respected tests of auditory abilities. The ASA, like its predecessors, is designed to provide accurate results of a student’s competency in auditory processing and provide diagnostic information that can be used to tailor instruction to the student’s needs.

Ages or Grades to be Tested:

We will be testing individuals ages 3 years 6 months through 6 years 11 months.

Special Populations:

Children diagnosed or at-risk for Auditory Processing Disorder.

Test Administration Time:

45 minutes

Field Examiners Needed:

School or Clinical Psychologist or supervised graduate students of these disciplines who have completed an advanced assessment course.

Scope of Project:

We will be collecting data from approximately 700 nonclinical and 75 clinical examinees during the standardization phase of this project. In addition to clinical and nonclinical samples we will also be collecting 100 reliability measures and 200 validity measures.

Testing Dates:

Testing for this study is tentatively scheduled to begin in September 2008.

Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning–4 (DIAL–4)

Test Description:

The DIAL-3 is undergoing revision. The DIAL is a screening test to assess motor, conceptual, and language behaviors demonstrated by young children. In addition, a Parent Questionnaire provides normative scores for the child’s self-help and social skills. We are field testing both the English and Spanish versions of the DIAL-4.

Ages or Grades to be Tested:

We will be testing normally developing children (those not receiving special education services) ages 2 through 5 years old from a variety of demographic backgrounds. Our sample will require both English-speaking children and Spanish-speaking.

Test Administration Time:

Examinees can be tested either by an individual examiner or using a stations approach. The stations approach requires four examiners be present—one for the play table and one at each of the three testing areas: Motor, Concepts, and Language. Estimated testing time at each station is approximately 15 minutes per child.

Site Coordinator Qualifications :

Must have experience with administering assessments. Should hold at least an associate’s degree (preferably a bachelor’s degree) in education or a related field and have experience working with young children (e.g., day care teacher or worker, preschool teacher, etc.).

Field Examiners Needed:

School or Clinical Psychologist.

Scope of Project:

We are collecting data in the US and Puerto Rico on approximately 900 English-language dominant and 500 Spanish-language dominant examinees during the tryout phase of this project.

Testing Dates:

Testing for this study continues through August 2008.

Spanish Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Fourth Edition (PPVT–4) and Spanish Expressive Vocabulary Test, Second Edition (EVT–2)

Test Description:

The Diagnostic & Special Needs Assessment group of Pearson is developing a Spanish version of the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Fourth Edition (PPVT–4) and the Expressive Vocabulary Test, Second Edition (EVT–2) and is seeking Spanish-speaking practitioners to collect data for the development of these forms.

Ages or Grades to be Tested:

We will be testing individuals ages 2½ through 25 years old whose dominant language is Spanish. Most individuals should be normally developing (not receiving special education services).

Test Administration Time:

Estimated testing time is 30 to 45 minutes per case, depending on the age of the examinee. Each examinee will take one form of Spanish PPVT–4 followed by one form of Spanish EVT–2.

Field Examiners Needed:

All examiners must be fluent in Spanish. In addition, every examiner must be a licensed School or Clinical Psychologist, or a graduate student in one of the fields listed above who has completed a course in individual assessment.

Scope of Project:

We will be collecting data in the US and other Spanish-speaking countries from approximately 2000 nonclinical cases, including reliability and validity measures, during the standardization phase of this project.

Testing Dates:

Testing for this study is scheduled to begin in early 2009.
