Raven’s APM measures high-level observation skills, clear thinking ability, intellectual capacity, and intellectual efficiency. The APM is designed to differentiate among people at the high end of intellectual ability. It has been used world-wide for more than 60 years.

The APM score indicates a candidate’s potential for success in such high-level positions as executive, director, general manager, or equivalent high-level technical or professional positions within an organization. These positions typically require high levels of clear and accurate thinking, problem identification, holistic situation assessment, and evaluation of tentative solutions. The APM score also can be used for developmental purposes in occupational and advanced educational settings.

The APM is a nonverbal measure of the ability to perceive and think clearly, make meaning out of confusion, and formulate new concepts when faced with novel information. It has been used world-wide for more than 60 years and is a preferred assessment for succession planning because it differentiates among high ability candidates. It is ideally suited for advanced professional, managerial, and executive populations.

The APM assessment produces a single raw score and a percentile rank to indicate the candidate’s mental ability compared to a norm group. The score report also contains a narrative that interprets the results.

The APM is a high-level mental ability test that requires the solution of problems presented as figures with patterns. The APM has four practice items plus two parts. Each item is presented as a pattern of diagrammatic puzzles with one piece missing. The task is to choose the correct missing piece from a series of possible answers. The items become progressively more difficult as the candidate proceeds through the APM.
